“Under new management…”

No, Quimble still belongs to me.

I just read this post over on Seth Godin’s blog. I usually agree with him, but I think maybe, for the first time in his life, he got this one wrong ;-) .

Under new management (especially at restaurants) DOES let me know that something has changed, that there’s something new, something different.

Maybe I sort-of-liked the place before, but I was bored. That little sign lets me know that there’s something fresh there. Maybe I didn’t like the place before. That little sign tells me that it MIGHT be worth giving it another chance.

In fact, the only people it doesn’t really help are the people that liked the place before. And… most of the places I’ve seen that are “under new management” weren’t doing so hot before.

That little sign is a real-world RSS feed letting me know: hey - something changed. Rather than waiting for me to go figure it out. To use Seth’s own philosophy: it’s letting me know that there’s a new story about to happen there, giving me the option to check it out (or not).
